ACHPN Felicitates With Christians, Harps On Improved PHCs In 2026

Background

The President, Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, ACHPN, Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed, has felicitated with christians, most especially members of the Association on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebration.

In his Christmas message, Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed admonished christians to use the occasion in praying for the unity, peace, development and continuous corporate existence of Nigeria.

He also stressed the need for them to use the period in rededicating their lives to the service of God and humanity.

According to him, this year’s Christmas celebration calls for sober reflection in view of the current situation in the country.

He used the Christmas occasion in calling for the overhaul of the nation’s Primary Healthcare System in the year 2026 towards enhancing the wellbeing of Nigerians nationwide.

The President of ACHPN equally emphasized the need for more recruitment of community health practitioners next year towards meeting the shortfall in the workforce in primary healthcare centres in the country.

While expressing concern over the welfare of Community Health Practitioners most especially those posted to rural areas, Comrade Yahaya Ahmed called for more measures that would improve their renumeration and welfare towards boosting their productivity and enhance effective healthcare delivery.

He advocated upgrade of Primary Healthcare Centres through the provision of basic amenities, most especially electricity, consumables, and water supply, among other facilities needed for primary healthcare delivery.

While identifying healthcare delivery as key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs 4, the National President of ACHPN enjoined Government at all levels to increase budgetary allocation to the health sector towards combating child and maternal mortality in the country.

Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed called on some State Commissioners that are denying Community Health Practitioners to practice in their State facilities to have a change of heart saying the action is contrary to the effort being made by the country to achieve the Universal Health Coverage.

He commended the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate and some State and Local Governments for allowing their Community Health Practitioners to participate in the forthcoming Scientific Conference organized this year by ACHPN in Minna, Niger State.

The President of ACHPN stated that the Association would continue to compliment the efforts of Government towards repositioning the nation’s primary healthcare sector.

Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed equally used the opportunity to condole with the good people of Bayelsa State over the death of the State’s Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo.
