Deputy Speaker Denies Abia Governorship Bid For 2027

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Benjamin Kalu, has dismissed claims that he intends to run for governor of Abia State in 2027.

In a statement in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu says a report circulating on social media, attributed to Native Reporters, was false and misleading.

According to the Statement, the deputy speaker has not made any declaration, either publicly or privately, to contest the governorship of Abia State in 2027.

“Mr Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, is concentrating on his legislative duties and his mandate to serve his constituents and serving them and indeed, all Nigerians with dedication and integrity.” the statement says.

He urged “Native Reporters” to retract the false report and adhere to basic journalistic ethics, including truth, accuracy, and fairness if they are a responsible and credible news platform.

He also cautioned against spreading misinformation and advised media professionals to verify facts before publication.

The statement adds that any future political plans would be announced through appropriate channels at the right time.
