Senators Demand Equal Enforcement Of Police Orderlies Withdrawal Directive

todayDecember 10, 2025

Background

Nigerian Senators have called for a fair and balanced implementation of the presidential directive ordering the withdrawal of police officers attached to very important personalities (VIPs) nationwide.

The lawmakers, who voiced displeasure over the withdrawal of their police orderlies, called on the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that the directive is applied uniformly.

According to them, state governors, ministers, heads of government agencies, and other influential citizens should also be affected.

During plenary, Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, raised a point of order to draw the Senate’s attention to the withdrawal of his only police orderly. He lamented that while lawmakers were stripped of their security aides, several public officials continued to retain full police protection.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who presided over the sitting, also expressed concern.

He noted that although the directive was strictly enforced on members of the legislature, it had yet to be applied to members of the executive arm or privileged businesspersons who still enjoyed police escort.

Barau informed the Senate that the issue had been escalated to the appropriate authorities and assured his colleagues that fairness would prevail.
