Defence experts have called for accelerated adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), drones, and advanced technologies to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
The call came at the NISECEXPO–DICON 2025 exhibition, which brought together stakeholders from Africa, Europe, and the global defence industry to explore future-focused security solutions.
Speaking at the event former Director-General of DICON, Rtd Major-General Victor Ezugwu,
stressed that AI-driven systems and drones, already partially integrated into Nigeria’s defence architecture can enhance surveillance, response time, and operational effectiveness.
He urged DICON and other defence producers to convert lessons from the expo into practical innovations, highlighting the importance of merging local expertise with global best practices.
General Ezugwu also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the DICON Act, giving the corporation the legal framework to expand domestic defence production, including unmanned aircraft and other modern technologies.
Also speaking President of the European Centre for Disaster Medicine, Professor Roberto Mugavero, noted that the expo provides a key platform for linking research, academia, and security agencies to tackle emerging threats more effectively.
On his part, Executive Director NISECEXPO, Frank Ohwofa emphasized that Nigeria’s Armed Forces are moving from conventional approaches to technology-driven operations, stressing that local innovation and private-sector collaboration are essential to building a resilient security system.
The experts agreed that events like NISECEXPO are critical in connecting scientists, policymakers, and security professionals to ensure AI, drones, and advanced technologies are fully integrated into Nigeria’s defence and security framework.
