Deepen Collaboration Across Armed Forces- Defence Minister Tasks Promoted Major Generals

todayDecember 10, 2025

Background

The Minister of Defence, Rtd General Christopher Musa, has charged newly promoted Major Generals of the Nigerian Army to deepen collaboration across the armed forces as they assume their new responsibilities.

Addressing the officers at the decoration ceremony in Abuja, General Musa praised their years of hard work, courage, and commitment to national security, stressing that their elevation reflects both personal achievement and the nation’s confidence in their leadership.

Highlighting discipline, strategic leadership, and professional excellence as the pillars of a strong Nigerian Army, the Minister singled out officers who served in high-risk operational areas, including Sector 3 in Monguno. “Your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of inter-service cooperation, urging the new Major Generals to work closely with the Army, Navy, Air Force, and other security agencies. “No single service can address Nigeria’s security challenges alone,” he stated, noting the increasing complexity of threats such as terrorism, insurgency, and kidnapping.

The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, also addressed the ceremony, commending the officers for their dedication and professionalism.

He stressed the need for adaptive leadership to navigate emerging security challenges and reiterated the Army’s role as the cornerstone of national stability and constitution order.

The COAS further highlighted the importance of strategic foresight and a unified regional approach to security, particularly in safeguarding West Africa.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of the promoted officers, Major General Francis Omata expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Defence, and military leadership for their confidence in the officers.

He also acknowledged the unwavering support of their families, whose sacrifices make such achievements possible, and pledged the officers’ continued commitment to protecting the nation’s integrity.

The ceremony concluded with General Musa and General Shaibu reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to national defence, operational excellence, and the welfare of its personnel.

Notably, one additional Brigadier General was elevated posthumously, underscoring the enduring recognition of service and sacrifice in the Nigerian Army.

The event marked both a milestone in the careers of the newly promoted officers and a broader affirmation of the Army’s mission to strengthen national security and uphold stability across the nation.
