Create Safer Physical, Digital Spaces For Women, Girls – Kogi Chairperson To Govt

todayDecember 10, 2025

Background

Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi State Chapter, Comrade Stella Edoka, has made a passionate appeal to government at all levels and to well-meaning Nigerians to help build safer environments where women and girls can live, learn, and flourish without fear of violence.

She made the call during a road walk in Lokoja to mark the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Comrade Edoka said this year’s campaign, themed “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls,” underscores the urgent need to protect women and girls in today’s expanding digital world by ensuring justice, safety, and access to essential digital protection services.

She cautioned that digital violence ranging from cyberbullying and online harassment to various forms of online exploitation was on the rise globally, stressing that the harm it causes was just as real and devastating as physical abuse.

She therefore urged communities, institutions, and policymakers to collaborate to build a society where women and girls are safe, empowered, and protected both online and offline.
