Ugwumba Skill-up Training Prog, Model For Tackling Unemployment – Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries of the 2025 Ugwumba Skill Up Training Programme have appealed to the Federal Government, corporate organisations, and wealthy Nigerians to collaborate with the Centre in expanding skill acquisition opportunities for unemployed youths across the country.

Speaking during the presentation of startup funds in Abuja, beneficiaries Oluwa Esther Mosunmola and Ochong Peter said the SkillUp initiative had given them a pathway toward self-reliance.

They noted that millions of young Nigerians are still in need of similar opportunities and urged stakeholders to support the Centre to scale up its impact nationwide.

The beneficiaries commended the leadership of the Centre for providing practical training, mentorship, and access to startup capital, describing the programme as a model for tackling youth unemployment and poverty.

On his part, President of the Ugwumba Leadership Centre for Africa, Chief Uche Nwosu, while presenting certificates and cheques to the beneficiaries explained that the initiative forms part of the organisation’s mission to reduce unemployment and nurture young African innovators by equipping them with market-ready skills.

According to Chief Nwosu, this year, over 6,000 youths participated in the virtual boot camp, while 200 underwent intensive vocational training in Pastries and Catering, Paint Making, Makeup and Gele Tying, and Food Processing and Packaging.

He added that after evaluations, 50 finalists were selected and awarded startup grants.

In her welcome address, the Centre’s Director of Operations, Bibby Kala-Kala, added that the programme aims to empower young Africans and help them maximise their God-given talents.

A key highlight of this year’s event was the presentation of the Dream Builders Think Tank Scholarship Award to six outstanding Nigerian youths who participated in this year’s program by the Founder of the Fulfilment Empowerment Network, USA, Dr. Alisa Whyte.

With its expanded network and strengthened partnerships, the SkillUp Training Programme is steadily positioning itself as a major catalyst for youth entrepreneurship and economic transformation in Nigeria and beyond.

Launched several years ago as a grassroots youth empowerment project, the Ugwumba SkillUp Programme has continued to expand its reach.
