Rumours Of My Arrest In France Politically Motivated- Wike

todayDecember 5, 2025

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that he was arrested in France, describing it as politically motivated distractions targeted at derailing his work in the FCT.

Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing Gwarimpa Interchange project, Wike said the rumour was fabricated by critics who are uncomfortable with the progress his administration is recording.

According to him, while the false reports were being widely shared, he was on-site inspecting projects at the Kubwa/Bwari axis.

“People will like to distract you, but once you are focused, you won’t be perturbed. Critics will always try to play politics,” Wike said.

“As far as your boss, the President, is happy with what you are doing, you remain focused and deliver on your mandate.”

The Minister emphasized that propaganda eventually loses its effect, noting that the public grows weary of repeated falsehoods.

He therefore urged public office holders not to be swayed by attempts to divert attention from service delivery.

Shifting focus from political distractions, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the Gwarimpa Interchange, assuring residents that the project would be completed within three months.

He assured residents that the interchange, once completed, will significantly ease the heavy traffic gridlock around the Gwarimpa axis.

“This will decongest the traffic situation leading to Gwarimpa Estate. I am sure residents will be happy at the end of the day” .

He commended the contractors, for maintaining impressive progress despite funding gaps.

“What surprises me is the confidence they have, even though we have not funded them very well,” he said.

“We will make sure the job is well funded so they can complete it as promised.”

Wike added that the hitch-free completion of the project will ease heavy traffic congestion along the Gwarimpa corridor, bringing relief to thousands of daily commuters.

On the defection of 16 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from the PDP, Wike described the situation as “unfortunate” but constitutionally permissible. He said the party’s factionalization gave legislators the legal backing to leave, while stressing that he remains committed to working with the lawmakers who stayed.

“The party must put its house in order. Internal disorder only weakens the party,” Wike said.

Wike reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and expressed readiness to support those who remain to sustain a relevant opposition in the state.
