todayDecember 5, 2025

Background

The Executive Director of Women in Mining Africa, WiM-Africa, Dr. Comfort Asokoro-Ogaji, has won the 2025 Women in Mining award at the Resourcing Tomorrow Outstanding Achievement in London.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of Operations and Secretariat Services, Women in Mining Africa, WiM-Africa, Dr. Antonia Nebo, in Abuja.

The statement says Dr. Asokoro-Ogaji emerged winner ahead of six exceptional finalists, including Amanda Lacaze of Lynas Rare Earths; Laura Tyler of Adriatic Metals; Ingrid Hibbard of Pelangio Exploration; Michelle Keegan of Atrico/Robopalooza; and Ria Sanz of Marlow Global.

According to the statement, in her acceptance speech, Dr. Asokoro-Ogaji dedicated the award to mining host communities and women across Africa, reaffirming the need for equitable development, beneficiation, strong policy advocacy, and value-driven partnerships, especially within the critical minerals value chain.

“This win is for African women in mining, for host communities sustaining global industries, and for every woman whose work builds this sector even when unseen.”

It adds that Dr. Asokoro-Ogaji currently drives transformation efforts across more than 36 African countries, leading the establishment of the WiM-Africa Institute for Leadership & Sustainable Mining, as well as beneficiation laboratories aimed at strengthening women-led value addition and research capacity on the continent.
