The Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives has denied claims that Speaker, Dr Abbas Tajudeen failed to account for ₦18.6 billion allegedly linked to the National Assembly Service Commission NASC, headquarters project.
In a statement, the Speaker’s media aide, Musa Abdullahi said the allegations reported in some media outlets and attributed to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, was “misleading” and wrongly suggested the Speaker had a role in the contract.
Abdullahi said the Speaker had no involvement “directly or indirectly” in awarding, processing, supervising or paying for any contract handled by the National Assembly or its agencies.
He explained that procurement matters fall strictly under the National Assembly bureaucracy, which operates through its own statutory leadership and processes.
He noted that SERAP itself acknowledged that the NASC building project was conceived and executed before the current House leadership assumed office.
The Office urged SERAP, the media, and the public to respect the institutional boundaries guiding the National Assembly and avoid attributing administrative decisions to the Speaker.
