todayNovember 28, 2025

Background

The Project Coordinator of the Kogi State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), Ladi Ahmed Jatto, has described the successful harvest of the first and second greenhouse-grown Bell Pepper crops in Ageva, Okene Local Government Area, as a landmark achievement in advancing agricultural innovation and climate resilience in the State.

She said the breakthrough highlights the Project’s strategic role in improving food security and supporting sustainable agricultural practices across Kogi State.

Jatto noted that the ACReSAL Project was designed to enhance agricultural productivity, promote technology transfer, and improve the livelihoods of women and youths.

She commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his commitment to climate-smart agriculture, citing the Greenhouse facility in Ageva and the Cucumber Greenhouse at the Federal University Lokoja as clear indicators of the administration’s support for modern farming techniques.

According to her, the governor has also approved the establishment of similar Greenhouses across the three Senatorial Districts, with Idah local government area set to benefit next.

Speaking on the impact of the initiative, the Project Coordinator stated that the harvest symbolizes growth, resilience and knowledge transfer, stressing that the programme was gradually positioning the state as a model of agricultural innovation.

She explained that beneficiaries include women farmers from local communities and students, noting that two successful harvests have already been recorded, with weekly harvests expected before replanting the next crop.

She extended gratitude to the World Bank Task Team and the National Project Office for their continued support and guidance, emphasizing that their collaboration has been instrumental in the Project’s success in Kogi State.
