Interior Minister Lauds Integration Of Energy Sector In Ongoing Reforms

todayNovember 26, 2025

Background

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has appraised the integration of Nigeria’s energy sector in the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms.

The minister applauded the sector’s achievements when delegates of the Renaissance Energy Company Limited (RAEC) paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo acknowledged that the reforms in the energy sector have attracted more investors, hence the positive outcomes.

“The sector has an effective stakeholders management, knowledge transfer and people in the energy sector respond to actions and activities not speeches and that’s what we are seeing in the sector.”

“A lot of people were probably worried when Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) announced it was leaving, but today, a lot of companies have taken that responsibility,” he said.

He applauded Renaissance for its transformative efforts since its take over from SDPC in March.

“I am not surprised by the achievements of Renaissance over a short period, and I believe you are one of the best we have had within the energy sector.

“ The amount invested in the sector is not what it used to be; you are building a brand, legacy and not just what we used to have as businesses cannot survive in an arena of no trust.

“Today the policies are there in the production system as there is no localisation without basically talking about indigenalisation.

“The government of Nigeria and the ministry is here to give you all the support because you are a Nigerian seed that must germinate and bear fruit for Nigerians home and beyond,” the minister said.

RAEC Managing Director (MD) Tony Attah appreciated the efforts of the minister in ensuring reforms.

Attah said that the industrialisation of Nigeria in a sustainable agenda is what RAEC aims to achieve.

“We must use our assets to get what we want as we believe there is a direct relation between energy poverty and economic poverty.

“It is great to know people in Nigeria don’t have to go through the old rigour, and we are proud to see Nigeria deploying technology and not being left behind,” the MD said.
