President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the Legal Practitioners Bill 2025 to the Senate, marking a significant step toward modernizing the nation’s legal framework.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, presented the Legal Practitioners Bill 2025 during plenary in Abuja.
The bill aims to replace the outdated Legal Practitioners Act of 2004 with far-reaching reforms intended to regulate and strengthen professional standards within Nigeria’s legal sector.
Senator Akpabio explained that the bill emphasizes safeguarding public interest, advancing the rule of law, and boosting public confidence in legal services. He noted that it introduces core principles such as integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct as foundational elements of legal practice.
The Senate later adjourned plenary in honour of their late colleague, Senator Okechukwu Ezea, who passed away last week.
