FCT 2026 : INEC To Sensitise Electorates For Credible Election

todayNovember 20, 2025

Background

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will carry out adequate voter education and Sensitisation ahead of the FCT Area Council Election scheduled for 21st February 2026.

The FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Aminu Idris, said in Abuja during the implementation meeting with stakeholders that with adequate information on the electoral processes, issues such as Voter Apathy and Void Votes would be addressed.

Represented by the FCT Administrative Secretary, Bimbo Oladunjoye, Mallam Idris explained that Voter Education would be carried out in all the six Area Councils in the territory and that Persons with Disabilities, PWDs, would not be left out for inclusivity.

He also explained that some of the messages would center on the provisions made available for the PWDs to support their independent associations while other citizens would be sensitised on their rights, responsibilities and benefits of participating in the exercise.

In a remark, the Deputy Director in Charge of Civic, Values and Democracy in the FCT National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mrs Theresa Eze said the agency would continue to support INEC in sensitising the electorate for them to make informed decisions and own the process themselves.

In a remark, the INEC Director of Gender and Inclusivity, Mrs Dorothy Bello said the objective of the meeting was to make sure that all INEC officials that would participate in the election understood their roles for credible polls.

Mrs Bello also explained that the workshop would give opportunity for participants to work through the activities that had been approved, highlight the strategies for implementation and ensure that timelines and expectations are understood.

Mrs Bello said it would also assist INEC officials to reflect on any operational issues that may arise during the polls.
