Prioritize Safety On Roads – ROSOWA President Appeals To Motorists

todayNovember 15, 2025

Background

The President, Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association ROSOWA Dr. Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed has called on motorists to prioritize safety on roads.

She also described the condition of road traffic crash victims at the Federal Medical Centre FMC, Jabi, Abuja, as “traumatising”.

Dr Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed who made the call when she led members of ROSOWA on a visit to victims of road accidents at the facility, said proper safety practices and understanding road safety rules was crucial in reducing preventable accidents.

The ROSOWA President said the visit was aimed at remembering victims who had lost their lives, supporting survivors and advocating renewed action to reduce road accidents injuries and deaths as part of activities marking the 2025 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, commemorated globally every third Sunday of November.

The ROSOWA president said that this year’s theme “Remember, Support, Act.” was timely while calling for renewed commitment to safer motoring across the country.

“It is traumatising to be here and see many crash victims, some unconscious and some beyond recognition.

She warned against speeding, drunk driving, and distracted driving, calling on drivers to always check their vehicles before embarking on a journey.

During the visit, Dr Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed assured that for 30 days, ROSOWA will take over the medical care and welfare of Mrs Mary, an unconscious hit-and-run victim who had been at the hospital for four weeks without any family members present.

According to her, the association will also donate N50,000 and relief materials to another female victim whose leg was amputated following a road crash.

In his remarks, a consultant neurosurgeon and Head of the Surgical Emergency Unit at the FMC, Dr. Timothy Samaila commended ROSOWA for showing concern for Road Accident victims saying the visit reflected genuine compassion and commitment to saving lives.

He also lauded ROSOWA for their visit and advocacy, stressing that such engagements help promote prevention, which remains the most effective way to curb trauma cases.

Items donated by the association also included wheel chairs, crutches, sanitary pads, pampers, cotton wools, bandages, money, and other relief materials.
