NUJ : FCT Council Mourns Veteran Journalist Ndamadu Sule

Background

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ FCT Council regrets to announce with deep sorrow, the death of its former Chairman, Comrade Ndamadu Sule, who died in the early hours of Friday, November 14, 2025) during a protracted illness.

The late Comrade Sule, who died at the age of 74, was an erudite journalist and respected union leader, who carved a niche for himself in the media industry.

SULE left behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of journalism in the FCT and Nigeria at large.

His remains were laid to rest according to Islamic rites at the Masaka Muslim burial ground.

The late Ndamadu Sule, who hailed from Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State is survived by six children and two wives.

A statement issued by the Secretary of the NUJ, FCT Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, described the late former Chairman as a great pillar of the union and a committed leader.

During his tenure as Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council between 1991 and 1995, Comrade Sule was known for his accountability, exceptional leadership qualities, passion for press freedom, and tireless advocacy for the welfare and professional development of journalists.

Ndamadu worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and his contributions to the growth of the union and the media industry remain indelible.

Speaking on the sad loss, the Chairman of the NUJ, FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, described Sule’s passing as “a painful blow to the journalism community,” noting that his wisdom, courage, and statesmanship will be greatly missed.

Meanwhile, a condolence register will be opened at the Council Secretariat Utako Abuja.

The Council extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all who were touched by his impactful life.
