Troost-Ekong Confirms NFF Agreement Ahead of World Cup Playoffs

Super Eagles Captain, William Troost-Ekong has confirmed that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the team resolved its differences, with the players resuming training ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoffs against Gabon.

Ahead of the crucial playoffs the three time African champions had open their camp on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco, as preparations kicked off to face the Panthers of Gabon.

However, on Tuesday the players boycotted train due to some reportedly unpaid allowance from the NFF to the team.

As a result of this action, NFF president Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau held a meeting the Super Eagles players and backroom staff in other to resolve the issue which has made the players boycott training earlier.

Captain Troost-Ekong took to X (formerly Twitter) late Wednesday evening to confirm the resolution of the issues.

He also announced the players are back on track and focused solely on the job in Morocco.

“Issue RESOLVED. Outstanding financials cleared and on ground. Team is UNITED and focussed as before on representing NIGERIA with our maximum for the games ahead!”

Shortly after his post, the team was spotted leaving the hotel and proceeding to the training ground ahead of their big Thursday match.

Nigeria will take on Gabon at the Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan on Thursday. The winner of the match while take on the other semifinal winner between Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Sunday

The eventual champion will secure Africa’s sole ticket to the Intercontinental Playoffs slated for Mexico next year.
