FCTA Refutes Sahara Reporters’ Allegation On ASO Radio/TV

todayNovember 10, 2025

Background

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has dismissed a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has neglected the Abuja Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and failed to pay workers’ salaries.

In a statement signed by the Acting Managing Director of the Corporation, Ajibola Akinwumi, the management described the publication as false, misleading, and unfair, stressing that staff salaries are fully paid and up to date as of October 2025.

According to Akinwumi, the Administration under Dr Wike’s leadership has not only remained committed to the welfare of the Corporation’s workforce but is also making deliberate efforts to uplift the status and operations of ASO Radio and Television.

He noted that the Honourable Minister has graciously approved the regularization of ad-hoc staff, thereby granting them pensionable status, a move he described as a major morale booster for the organization.

He commended residents of the FCT for recognizing the Minister’s transformative leadership and commitment to infrastructure development, urging the public to continue supporting his efforts to achieve the common good.

While emphasizing the Corporation’s respect for investigative journalism as a tool for accountability, Akinwumi faulted Sahara Reporters for what he termed a blatant disregard for journalistic ethics, saying the report was published without seeking his response or clarification.

“It is unfortunate that such a report, which ignored the principles of fairness and balance, was allowed to circulate. The content relating to ABC is nothing short of an ethical breach,” he said.

He reaffirmed that the Abuja Broadcasting Corporation maintains an open administration and continues to operate 24 hours daily on both radio and television platforms, serving the public with professionalism and integrity.

Akinwumi further cautioned against the spread of misinformation, reminding journalists that fake news does not contribute to nation-building.
