The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Dr Nyesom Wike, has granted a final 14-day grace period to property owners who violated the land use and purpose clauses in Asokoro, Maitama, Garki, and Wuse districts of the Federal Capital City, FCC.
The exercise does not cover properties whose titles have been revoked due to non-development, non-payment of ground rent, or other violations.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, the defaulters are required to pay a ₦5 million violation fee and other applicable charges for land use change or conversion. The extension takes effect from Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Olayinka warned that “failure to comply within the stipulated 14 calendar days will attract enforcement actions by the FCT Administration.”
He recalled that the FCTA had earlier published public notices on September 8, 9, and 10, 2025, in national newspapers and online platforms, informing property owners of the reviewed land use and purpose clauses in the affected areas.
The statement noted that the initial 30-day grace period for payment of penalties had expired about a month ago, prompting the Minister’s magnanimous approval of an additional 14 days to allow compliance.
The affected streets and locations include Maitama District by Gana Street, Usuma Street, Asokoro District: Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Wuse II District: Aminu Kano Crescent, Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent.
Others are Garki II District: Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya Street, Onitsha Street, Garki I District: Ogbomosho Street, Lafia Close, Yola Street, Abriba Close, Danbatta Street, Ringim Close, and Ilorin Street.
The statement further directed affected property owners to visit the Department of Land Administration with their original title documents and valid identification to collect their Letters of Conveyance of Approval, which will contain details of the new land use and applicable fees.
Additionally, Wike has approved the issuance of new title documents, including Statutory Rights of Occupancy and Certificates of Occupancy, to compliant property owners. These new documents will reflect the updated land use for a renewed term of 99 years.
