The Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Salihu Enehe, has called for stronger collaboration with members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to sensitize residents on the state’s new tax reform, which is set to take effect in January next year.
Alhaji Enehe made the call when executives of Kogi NAWOJ paid him a courtesy visit at the Revenue House in Lokoja.
He described journalists as indispensable partners in governance, emphasizing that no government policy can succeed without effective media engagement.
According to him, without journalists, there would be no democracy or freedom, stressing the importance of media involvement in promoting transparency and accountability.
The KGIRS boss noted that the forthcoming tax reform requires extensive public enlightenment to ensure smooth implementation.
He commended NAWOJ for recognizing the achievements of the service and assured that the agency would continue to partner with the media to educate citizens on the importance of tax compliance.
Alhaji Enehe disclosed that the service was working towards increasing the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to at least four billion naira monthly.
Earlier, the Chairperson of Kogi NAWOJ, Mrs. Stella Edoka, applauded Alhaji Enehe for his visionary leadership, which has boosted the state’s IGR from one billion to three billion naira monthly.
She also lauded his commitment to staff welfare, innovation, and initiatives such as the Tax Quiz Competition and the digitalization of revenue collection.
Mrs. Edoka expressed NAWOJ’s readiness to collaborate with KGIRS on tax literacy campaigns, advocacy for voluntary compliance, and programs aimed at empowering women and children across the state.
She noted that the visit was part of NAWOJ’s efforts to strengthen its partnership with KGIRS in promoting public enlightenment and good governance in Kogi State.
