NASS : Tinubu Seeks Confirmation Of New Service Chiefs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the House of Representatives to confirm the appointment of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff and three other top military officers as Service Chiefs of the Armed Forces.

In a letter read by the Speaker, Dr Abbas Tajudeen during plenary, President Tinubu said the nominations were made in accordance with Section 18, Subsection 1 of the Armed Forces Act, Cap A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The president also forwarded the names of Major General Waidi Shuaibu as Chief of Army Staff,

Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff for confirmation.

The President urged lawmakers to give the nominations urgent consideration, noting that the Senate is conducting a concurrent confirmation exercise.

Following the communication, the House constituted a joint screening committee chaired by the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence.

Other members include the chairmen and deputy chairmen of the Committees on Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The committee was directed to begin the screening immediately to ensure a thorough and expeditious exercise consistent with legislative practice and constitutional provisions
