Heirs Of Late Emir Of Ilorin Petition EFCC Over Family Property

todayOctober 27, 2025

Background

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,
has been called upon to investigate alleged mismanagement and unauthorised development of a property belonging to the estate of the late Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Zulkarnaini Gambari Mohammed.

In a petition dated October 22, 2025, and addressed to the EFCC’s Kwara Zonal Office, heirs and beneficiaries of the late monarch’s estate accused one of the administrators, Mr. Ahmed Bolakale Gambari, of acting beyond his authority by engaging a property developer without the consent or approval of other administrators.

The disputed property, according to the petition, is a prime family estate located along Murtala Mohammed Way, Ilorin, which the family said was being developed without their collective consent.

The petitioners alleged that the move violated the fiduciary duty owed to all beneficiaries and could amount to fraudulent conversion and abuse of administrative trust.

They further argued that such unilateral dealings undermine the legal framework guiding estate management and called for accountability in accordance with existing anti-corruption laws.

According to the petition, four administrators were jointly appointed to manage the estate in the collective interest of all beneficiaries.

They are: Ahmed Bolakale Gambari, Zeinab Ayobola Zubair, Asmau Funmilayo Buhari, and Hassia Wuraola Gambari.

The heirs alleged that Mr. Ahmed Bolakale Gambari failed to consult with his co-administrators, withheld financial details, and concealed information about the developer involved in the project.

The family urged the EFCC to launch an immediate investigation into the transaction, trace all related financial dealings, and suspend any ongoing construction on the property.

They stressed that the issue extends beyond a family dispute, describing it as a matter of public interest that raises concerns over the misuse of administrative power and the need for stronger legal oversight in the management of estates linked to public figures.

The petitioners said the Commission’s intervention would promote transparency, prevent misappropriation, and protect the legacy of the late Emir, whose reign remains a source of pride to the Ilorin Emirate.
