The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has issued a powerful appeal to residents to critically assess candidates based on their track record of service delivery rather than empty promises.
Maikalangu also urged voters to rally behind leaders who are truly working for the development of the people, not “sugar-coated” politicians who promise the world but deliver nothing.
The Chairman made the call during the celebration of the annual Indi-Igbo New Yam Festival (Iri Ji) in Abuja, an event that symbolized the inclusive and multi-ethnic nature of his current administration and re-election campaign.
The appeal comes as Chairman Maikalangu officially positions himself for a second term in the forthcoming AMAC Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
”We are not here to simply occupy a seat; we are here to serve the community with tangible projects and accountable governance,”
“My message to every resident of AMAC is clear: look beyond the empty rhetoric. Vote for continuity, vote for substance, and vote for the leadership that has already demonstrated its ability to act on the people’s deepest yearnings.”
Maikalangu’s campaign is being launched from a strong foundation of widespread support, having recently secured endorsements from the influential South-South bloc, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, the Candido Progressive Network, and several major APC affiliated groups.
Highlighting the inclusive and unified nature of his administration and campaign, he appeared alongside a multi-ethnic team of key stakeholders.
His supporting team included his Chief of Staff, Mr Emeka Orji, and the Supervisory Councillor for Education, Mr Obi Arinze (both of Igbo extraction, whose presence at the festival underlined the coalition’s commitment to all residents).
They were joined by the AMAC APC Chairman, Alh. Muktar Abubakar, APC Secretary, Hon Bala Babale, and APC South-East Chairman, Chief Obi Rex and the PDP AMAC Chairma, Chief God-abeg Egbe.
This coalition underscores the Chairman’s commitment to an all-encompassing governance agenda designed to represent and benefit all constituencies across AMAC.
His re-election bid focuses squarely on the continuity of projects and a mandate of service-first and accountability.
