PCC Celebrates 50yrs Of Service, Pledges Fairness In Public Administration

todayOctober 16, 2025

Background

The Public Complaints Commission PCC, also known as Nigeria’s Ombudsman, has clocked fifty years of service to the people, reaffirming its mandate of promoting accountability, fairness, and justice in public administration.

Established in 1975, the PCC was created to provide Nigerians with a reliable channel to seek redress against administrative injustices, abuse of office, or unfair treatment by government agencies and officials.

As part of activities marking its golden jubilee, the Adamawa State office of the Commission joined other states in celebrating the milestone, highlighting its achievements and continued relevance in ensuring good governance.

Speaking at the event, the Adamawa State Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, Mrs. Maryam Dalhatu, expressed satisfaction over the Commission’s impact in addressing citizens’ grievances over the years.

She noted that the PCC remains a beacon of hope for the ordinary Nigerian seeking justice outside the conventional court system.

Mrs. Dalhatu emphasized that the Commission’s work is guided by confidentiality, assuring complainants that their petitions are treated discreetly.

Also speaking, the Director of Investigation, Mr. Dan Maiyaki, explained that the PCC investigates complaints through written or verbal petitions submitted at any of its offices across the country.

He added that upon receipt, each complaint is registered, acknowledged, and followed up until resolution.

Mr. Maiyaki further cautioned against individuals who attempt to obstruct or mislead the Commission, noting that the PCC Act prescribes penalties for anyone who makes false statements or interferes with the work of the Commission.

There are PCC offices in all 36 states of the Federation, including five area offices and complaint boxes in Local Government Areas to bring its services closer to the grassroots.

The Public Complaints Commission, through its golden jubilee celebrations, reiterates its commitment to building a more just and transparent Nigeria where the voices of citizens are heard and their rights protected.
