The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO is to collaborate with women in Nigeria in the implementation of some conventions aimed at ensuring the empowerment of the female gender.
A member of the UNESCO creative city network, Mr. Francis Sokumba stated this at a meeting with a non-governmental organization, New Dawn for Women and Community Intervention Initiative.
Mr. Sokumba, who is also a consultant in Arts and Crafts, explained that the objective of the women group is in line with the 2030 UNESCO agenda.
Mr. Sokumba gave assurance that UNESCO would connect the women group to the major global arts and crafts market.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mrs Sa’adatu Bakone said Nigerian women were ready to make meaningful contributions to national development.
According to her, “Through our various interventions from skills empowerment programmes, widows support, and to community development projects, we will touch lives and rekindle hope in places where it was nearly lost.”
She said the organisation would partner government agencies and other partners to achieve its objectives in supporting the government in empowering women in rural areas through targeted interventions.
Mrs Bakone explained that the intervention includes education and community-based initiatives that would promote socio-economic growth and well-being.
Also, the South West regional coordinator of the group Ronke Akani said the women would partner with other non-governmental organizations with similar passion to achieve success.
