The House of Representatives has called for dialogue between labour unions and refinery operators to resolve ongoing disputes in the oil and gas industry.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Ikenga Ugochinyere, made the appeal at the opening of the first annual Downstream Petroleum Week in Abuja.
According to Ugochinyere, the committee is aware of recent tensions between the Dangote Refinery and sector unions, warning that such disputes must not undermine national productivity.
The Chairman urged both sides to engage in constructive dialogue rather than industrial action, assuring that parliament is ready to mediate to ensure peace and fairness in the sector.
The Speaker of the House, Dr Abbas Tajudeen said President Bola Tinubu’s reforms are revitalizing the downstream sector and called on stakeholders to develop creative solutions to strengthen the economy.
Represented by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Dr Abbas added that the National Assembly would continue to provide legislative backing to promote transparency, investment, and industrial harmony in the petroleum industry.
