Wealthy individuals have been urged to assist inmates serving jail terms and those awaiting trial at the various Correctional Centers across the country.
The Regional Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church Joseph Adeyokunnu made the call when the RCCG Northern Accountants paid a visit to the Kuje Medium Security Correctional Center in Abuja .
Pastor Joseph Adeyokunnu said the government alone can not shoulder the responsibility of catering for the needs of a multitude of inmates presently in correctional centres.
He said the church decided to visit the centre to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and let the inmates know that there is hope after freedom from the correctional centre.
Pastor Joseph Adeyokunnu admonished them to live responsibly and take advantage of the various schemes introduced by the government to enable them to contribute to the social economic activities of their communities after freedom.
According to him, the government has provided opportunities for inmates to school to the highest level while there are also various skill acquisition programs in the Centres.
He appealed to the families of the inmates not to lose hope as God would transform the lives of their loved ones being incarcerated.
He commended various economic policies of the federal government and expressed belief that the programs would yield positive results.
The RCCG Pastor, however, stressed the need for government agencies to ensure that various initiatives of the present administration reach the citizens at the grass roots.
National Coordinator of the RCCG Accountant Pastor Temitope Oyeleye said the church would not relent in carrying its social responsibility to alleviate the plight of the down trodden in the country.
Pastor Temitope Oyeleye expressed the belief that with constant visits and admonition by the Church, the inmates would live responsible lives after freedom.
Items provided included. Toiletries, slippers, rice, clothes, and beverages, amongst others.
