HOR Promises Legislation To Fight Insecurity As NFSS Seeks Ascent To Its Bill

The House of Representatives has promised to continue to put in place legislation that will combat insecurity in the country.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Hon. Ahmed Satomi made the promise while declaring open a National Summit on Security held in Abuja.

The Summit with the theme “Managing Security and Security Challenges at the Grassroots in Nigeria: The Role of Critical Stakeholders was attended by Scholars and Experts on Security Matters across the country.

Hon. Ahmed Satomi, who was represented by the Clerk of the Committee, Mr Daniel Labija, called for the support of stakeholders to enable Nigeria to overcome her security challenges.

In his paper presentation entitled”Institutionalizing Forest Security: A Long Term Strategy for National Security Sustainability “, the Commander General of Nigeria Forest Security Service, NFSS, Dr. Joshua Osatimehin said officers and men of the Service had been professionally trained by the Police, Military, NSCDC and other paramilitary agencies on intelligence gathering and security strategies towards complimenting the efforts of formal security agencies in protecting lives and property in the country most especially at the grassroots.

Dr. Joshua Osatimehin stated that NFSS is fully on ground in the 36 States and 774 Local Government Areas nationwide.

While restating NFSS continuous support to the nation’s formal security agencies, Dr. Joshua Osatimehin appealed to President Bola Tinubu to sign the NFSS Bill before him into law towards combating banditry, kidnapping, boko haram and other forms of crimes and criminality in Nigeria’s forested region.

Also in his paper presentation “Managing Crisis and Insecurity Challenges: The Roles of Law Enforcement Agencies”, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Saka Ajao Adewale called for the support of stakeholders in the task of reducing insecurity in the country

CP Adewale, who was represented by ACP Harrison Oruruw said the Police would not relent in ridding the society of crimes and criminality towards ensuring national peace and development.

Other speakers at the forum stressed the need for the federal government to strengthen security at the grassroots, most especially in the nation’s forests, by given constitutional recognition to the Nigeria Forest Security Service, NFSS
