Remain Vigilant, Shun Misinformation, Safeguard Nig’s Unity- CDS To Corpers

todayOctober 8, 2025

Background

As part of efforts to promote national security consciousness and civic responsibility among Nigerian youths, corps members at the National Youth Service Corps NYSC Orientation Camp in Dakingari, Kebbi State, have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid misinformation, and contribute actively to the safety of their communities and the nation at large.

The Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa made the call during a sensitisation programme organised by the Defence Media Operations DMO as part of its ongoing nationwide security awareness campaign across NYSC orientation camps.

Delivering the Chief of Defence Staff’s message, Navy Lieutenant Cynthia Akor emphasised that youths remain the cornerstone of national development and must play active roles in safeguarding Nigeria’s unity and stability.

She urged corps members to shun fake news, stay alert, report suspicious movements, and engage in productive activities that strengthen peace and security in their host communities.

The Kebbi State team was led by the Deputy Director, Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Abu Mawashi, who explained that the nationwide engagements are designed to strengthen civil-military cooperation and promote a culture of security awareness among young Nigerians.

On his part, the Kebbi State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Bala Dabo, commended the Chief of Defence Staff and the DMO team for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.

He noted that the training would help corps members make informed decisions during emergencies and disclosed that the Dakingari camp has been fortified with enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of all participants.

Some corps members who spoke during the session expressed appreciation for the exercise, noting that it had broadened their understanding of security issues and improved their confidence in handling real-life situations.

They also pledged to support efforts aimed at building a safer and more peaceful Nigeria.

The sensitisation exercise forms part of the Defence Headquarters’ broader initiative to deepen security awareness, strengthen national unity, and foster partnership between the military and citizens, especially among the youth population who represent the country’s future.
