The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC will on Tuesday commence a seven-day special operation to check the excess of motorists, especially commercial drivers along Airport Road, Abuja
The FCT Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Felix Theman, who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja expressed concern over the reckless and dangerous driving along the route which has claimed many lives.
The Sector Commander also noted that the exercise would be used to impound vehicles being used to pick up passengers causing obstruction and those engaging in commercial activities under pedestrian bridges along the route.
He also said the FRSC is working with other security agencies to ensure full enforcement of the exercise.
On the ongoing Operation against overloading in the federal capital territory, the Sector Commander said three mobile courts were today activated to ensure full enforcement of the exercise.
Mr Theman emphasized that the overloading of passengers and goods not only endangers lives by making seatbelt use impossible but places undue stress on vehicle tyres and suspension systems.
“It impairs the driver’s ability to control the vehicle effectively especially in emergency situations.”
Mr Theman, however, appealed to passengers and commuters to support FRSC’s efforts towards bringing sanity to the FCT Transport Sector.
