The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Abbas Tajudeen, has pledged that the 10th House will continue to protect the interests of teachers and promote wider access to education.
In a statement marking World Teachers’ Day, Dr Abbas praised teachers for their dedication and their role in shaping the lives of young people.
The Speaker, who once worked as a teacher, described educators as “co-parents” who help to mould responsible and patriotic citizens.
He called for better welfare, training, and retraining for teachers and other academic staff to enable them to perform effectively.
Dr Abbas said the House remained committed to using legislation to ensure quality and affordable education for every Nigerian child.
World Teachers’ Day, established by UNESCO in 1994, is celebrated globally on 5 October to recognise the contributions of teachers to society.
