The Primate Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba has called on Political Elites to place National interest above personal ambitions and emulate the sacrifice made by the nation’s founding fathers for National Development.
Addressing the opening of this year’s World Mission Congress in Abuja, Most Reverend Ndukuba said the founding fathers formed a united force against the colonial masters to get independence for the country in 1960.
He decried the present situation where politicians used religion and ethnic divides to achieve their goals at the detriment of peace, unity, and national development.
Archbishop Ndukuba passionatly appealed to the present administration not to relent in pursuing justice and ensuring even distribution of resources to make lives more meaningful to the less privileged in the country.
He commended the current steps taken so far to address the nation’s security challenges urging the Federal Government to summon political will and expose those sponsoring terrorism and banditry for peace to reign in every part of the country .
According to him, some privileged citizens, especially traditional and political leaders, are behind the current state of insecurity, hence the need for ordinary citizens to work together with the security agencies to win the war against insurgency.
“Development can not come until the government addresses the insecurity affecting socio-economic activities in the country”.
He stressed the need for church leaders not to allow the present situation in the country to affect the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, however, assured that The Anglican Church would strengthen its support in the areas of Education and Empowerment schemes to alleviate the plight of the down trodden and give a voice to the voiceless in the society.
Representatives of religious bodies within and outside the country are attending the Congress with the Theme: Arise and Shine; Pushing The Frontier Of Global Mission .
