The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) wants stakeholders in the tourism industry to prioritize security, to enhance the growth of the sector.
The FCT Commandant of the Corps, Dr Olusola Odumosu made the call in his Message at this year’s World Tourism Day, with the theme “Tourism and Peace – Building Through Cultural Diplomacy” held in Abuja.
According to the Commandant, if the industry is given adequate security, it will encourage people to invest and patronize the various sites across the country.
The FCT Boss, noted that as the agency responsible for the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, tourism sites which are categorized as critical assets are under its purview due to its rich potential in the preservation of cultural heritage.
He noted that one of the reasons the industry was not fully utilized was the lack of security to guarantee the safety of those visiting such sites stressing that people would have more confidence to visit the facilities if their safety is guaranteed.
“We believe that there is no Tourism without security, we are dispossed to partnering with the industry by providing the needed security for its sites acrose the city center, we have a duty to work together to ensure that Abuja is safe for all tourists and tourism destinations in the city”.
The FCT Command helmsman, implored tourism stakeholders to project the sector to the world by promoting their activities as well as investing in security to give tourists the confidence to come and explore the beautiful sceneries and cultures in the country at large.
“Security agencies are on top of their game and are open to partnering with the sector to enhance security and growth.”
“Tourism has a lot of potential capable to bridge the gap in our culture if properly harnessed, it is capable of promoting our values and culture thereby countering all forms of misinformation about the security situation of our country.”
“There is no country of the world that can boldly say that they do not have their own share of insecurity, it’s all about everyone playing his own role to tell the world that it is not as bad as it is being portrayed”.
The NSCDC and other security agencies are combing all dark spots, where criminals could be hibernating in the FCT to ensure that we protect all Critical National Assets and Infrastructure as well as lives and properties of the residents of the FCT, Commandant Odumosu Stated.
