Kapital FM 92.9 The Station that Rocks!
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FCT Council, has called on the NUJ Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Abuja Operations Chapel, to uphold balanced and professional reporting as part of efforts to strengthen national development.
The Chairman, NUJ Council Comrade Grace Ike, made the call in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the newly elected chapel executives.
She urged journalists to maintain the highest ethical standards in their work.
‘We are happy that the FRCN NUJ, Abuja Operations is characterized with people of capacity tested and trusted with integrity and transparency ready to give account of their stewardship.”
Comrade Ike also commended the former Chairman, Shakirat Alabi, for what she described as inclusive leadership and promised that the council would continue to train and retrain members to uphold professionalism
She reminded chapel leaders to develop innovative programmes that would engage all members.
‘I also want to use this medium to appreciate the immediate past chairman of the FRCN NUJ Abuja Operations chapel Madam Shakirat Alabi who performed very well, infact her leadership style is a testament of carrying everyone along and giving them that sense of belonging.”
“As a chapel there’s a lot you can do for your members while the council will continue to train and re- train members on ethical journalism with the hope that leaders at the chapel level should also initiate programs, innovative ones to carry every member along”.
“Do not forget that ethical journalism is our watch word it’s a new era and time to change the narrative and NUJ FCT Council will do everything possible to promote the welfare of her members and that applies to leaders at the chapel level as well.”
“Also encourage your members to pay their dues which you’re doing already and the essence is that when the need arises to assist we would first of all check your records to know if you’re an authentic member of the union and what you have contributed, Grace added”.
Earlier, the Chairman FRCN NUJ Abuja Operations Comrade Oduyemi Odumade commended Grace Ike’s led administration for its numerous achievements since the assumption of office.
She, however, pledged the chapel’s loyalty in defending press freedom and standing for members welfare and providing direction for the profession to further consolidate on the leadership style of the Council on openness, inclusivity and vision.
“We are particularly grateful that some of our members have benefitted from the training programs and the medical outreach. These efforts have touched lives, and we sincerely appreciate them and wish to affirm our identity with the union.”
“We are FRCN Abuja Operations Chapel, not Kapital FM Chapel, since our chapel covers the entire Abuja Operations.We are eager to work closely with the Council whether in training, advocacy or active participation in NUJ activities.
“Once more, we thank you for receiving us warmly, and we pray for more wisdom, strength, and success as you continue to support the NUJ in the FCT.”
The Vice Chairman of the FRCN NUJ Abuja Operations, Mr Tejumola Saliu, commended Grace Ike’s led administration and restated the commitment of the chapel to give them the necessary support in line with their vision
Other executive members of the FRCN NUJ Abuja Operations Chapel on the visit were the Secretary and Assistant Secretary Jilian Abalaka, Garry Ochigbo, Financial Secretary Tabawa Yinusa and the Auditor Amara Ekpunobi
