INEC Partners NIMC For Simultaneous Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it will collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC to give opportunity to Nigerians to Conduct both Continuous Voter Registration and also register for their National Identity Number simultaneously.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu said in Abuja that the collaboration would be effective since the Commission holds the database of citizens for the purpose of elections while NIMC has the record of citizens generally.

Professor Yakubu explained that NIMC would deploy its officials to some INEC registration centres during the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to provide more Nigerians who are yet to register for the National Identification Number (NIN) the opportunity to do so.

He said that a pilot exercise had been carried out during the recent CVR in Anambra State from 8th to 20th July 2025 and that the two agencies were now set to scale it up nationwide.

He added that the management of NIMC would provide details of the locations of INEC CVR centres where it would deploy its officials and also provide the modalities for the NIN registration once they are ready to commence.

Earlier, the Director General, National Identity Management Commission, Mrs Abisoye Coker-Odusote pledged the commitment of her agency towards the full implementation of the partnership.

She said that the collaboration was a step towards building a unified identity database in the country.
