49 Deputy Directors Surmount FCTA’s First CBT, Elevated To Director Cadre

todayAugust 26, 2025

Background

Forty-nine Deputy Directors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have successfully scaled through the first-ever Computer-Based Promotion Examination, earning elevation to the rank of Director, from Grade Level 16 to 17.

The landmark promotion exercise, approved by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, followed the release of results from the CBT held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the National Open University, Duste-Alhaji Study Centre, in Bwari Area Council.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, said the promotion was designed to clear the backlog of arrears from 2023 to 2025.

Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, disclosed that the promoted officers would fill 49 out of the 63 existing vacancies across the Administration’s departments.

A breakdown of the results showed that the Education Officer Cadre accounted for the highest number of promotions with 20, followed by the Accountant Cadre with nine.

Other cadres such as civil engineering, social welfare, tourism, fisheries, and medical officers recorded one promotion each.

The Education Cadre had the most competition, with 820 officers vying for 20 slots, while 12 Admin officers contested for 10 available vacancies.

Minister Wike had earlier directed that the promotion process adopt a transparent, technology-driven model to eliminate undue influence.

The Civil Service Commission, therefore, introduced the CBT system, with the Board of Examiners pegging the pass mark at 60 per cent to ensure merit-based assessment and timely release of results.
