The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commenced another phase of project commissioning and flag-offs, focusing on improved water supply for residents of the Territory.
Following 16 days of continuous projects commissioning which ended on July 3, 2025, the Minister today, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, will commission the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam, Ushafa, in Bwari Area Council.
The exercise will continue tomorrow with the flag-off of the construction and expansion of water supply to satellite towns, beginning with Lot 1: Bwari Township in Bwari Area Council. On Thursday, attention will shift to Lot 2: Karu town and its environs in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
During the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project on June 16, 2025, Wike had disclosed that the FCT Administration had signed a new agreement during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 official visit to China.
The agreement was designed to extend water supply to satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.
The Minister further assured that procurement processes for these projects were already nearing completion, with a commitment to ensuring timely delivery.
