Tinubu’s Administration Prioritizes Youth Empowerment – Mahmoud

todayAugust 19, 2025

Background

The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory ,FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has placed youth empowerment at the heart of its Renewed Hope Agenda, recognizing young people as the driving force of Nigeria’s future.

She made this declaration at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja.

Dr. Mahmoud explained that through skills development, entrepreneurship support, digital innovation, and job creation initiatives, the Federal Government is equipping Nigerian youths to thrive in today’s competitive global economy.

“The goal is to empower young people as job creators rather than mere job seekers, thereby reducing unemployment, fostering innovation, and strengthening socio-economic development,” she said.

She assured that the FCT Administration, under the leadership of Barrister Nyesom Wike, remains fully committed to supporting the NYSC’s noble objectives and providing an enabling environment for corps members to excel.

Commending the NYSC management for their tireless efforts in ensuring the success of the orientation course, Mahmoud stressed that the scheme’s commitment to youth development and national integration is invaluable in strengthening Nigeria’s collective bond.

Addressing the corps members, she urged them to uphold the values of discipline, unity, patriotism, and service to humanity. She further charged them to contribute positively to their host communities, reminding them that the NYSC scheme is not only a call to duty but also an opportunity to promote national unity, peace, and development.

She also advised corps members to be security-conscious, respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities, and conduct themselves in ways that would bring honour to both the NYSC and Nigeria.

In his remarks, the FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Samson Ateli, affirmed that the NYSC remains a national asset, playing a vital role in fostering peaceful co-existence and driving national development through the deployment of corps members to various sectors of the economy.

“This inspires corps members to function productively and to fully integrate into their host communities,” he said.

Ateli further advised corps members to accept their postings in good faith and desist from acts of inducing rejections. He encouraged them to take full advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme by registering for post-camp training, which would equip them with skills for self-reliance.
