AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Network
has organized a two day step-down training in Abuja for stakeholders implementing the Global Fund Grant Cycle Seven project across the FCT.
The FCT Coordinator for the control of Tuberculosis, Mr. Nathaniel Salifu said the training was to acquaint the participants on the National Community System Strengthening Framework and the National Community-Led Monitoring System for Disease Response to guide their operations at the grassroots.
He said the move was targeted at domesticating the two documents at the sub-national level to boost healthcare delivery by supporting the government to achieve its set goals of universal health coverage.
Also speaking at the forum, the Programme Manager, FCT Agency for the Control of AIDS, FACA Dr. Doris John explained the need to harmonize human resources in the control of public health preventable diseases.
It is a wakeup call to arise to our responsibilities as government, the issue of integration has become inevitable, and when we talk about, integration, we are not just talking about harmonizing the prevention and control of these diseases of public health importance. We are also talking about harmonizing even the human resources, and I can assure you that the community is a very critical stakeholder in our responses.”
On her part, the Assistant Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilisation Officer of the FCT Malaria programme Goodness Madueke, urged Community Based Organisations to be at the vanguard at ensuring the public are not extorted as Malaria treatment for now is free in all government facilities in the FCT.
Stakeholders at the meeting were drawn from the Human Rights Commission, religious bodies, FCT public health departments of malaria, tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS and Community Based organisations working in various facilities in the territory.
