Residents around Christ the Kings College, CKC, in Gwagwalada Area, Council of the Federal Capital Territory, have expressed concern over the recent activities of illegal miners in the area.
Speaking with correspondent Bako Abdullahi who visited the area in Gwagwalada Abuja, the residents lamented that illegal operations of the miners had been affecting their land and Houses due to the discovery of a precious stone suspected to be gold in one of the houses in the area.
According to them, the gold which was discovered by a labourer while digging a soak away pit in a house in the vicinity has attracted many people, including males, females, the young and old, to the area.
They, therefore, called on the federal government, most especially the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, to checkmate the activities of the illegal miners and seek ways of harnessing the suspected mineral resources for national economic development.
When contacted on the issue, the Head of Works Department, Gwagwalada area Council, Alhaji Abdul Azeez, said the Council is yet to receive any official report on the illegal mining operation.
Alhaji Abdul Azeez promised that the Council would surmon a security meeting towards addressing the situation.
