The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the success of the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration, CVR commencing next week in the Federal Capital Territory.
The FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Aminu Idris who stated this while addressing News men ahead of the exercise said the commission might create more centres to enable all eligible residents participate in the electoral process.
According to him, the exercise has provision for voters who seek to correct errors on their previous Permanent Voter Cards, PVC and transfer their registration units within FCT or interstate.
He emphasized that residents would also have opportunity to collect Ninety three thousand eight hundred and Sixty eight uncollected PVCs in thr FCT.
Mallam Idris further stressed that the exercise will provide window for registrants who wish to replace damaged or lost PVCs in the Six Area Councils.
The FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner assured that the commission would ensure that residents were well informed to participate in the forthcoming Area Council Election and 2027 general election.
He appealed to the Media to support the commission in enlightening and educating residents on the forthcoming two key electoral activities in the territory.
“It is also our expectation that much Media information will be given to deepen citizens’ understanding of their electoral rights and responsibilities as well as promoting positive perception that will make both CVR exercise and the Area Council Election in FCT peaceful and Free of thuggery.
He insisted that the commission will continue to prioritize partnership with the media to help promote successful and inclusive electoral process for Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria.
The meeting provided opportunity for some senior officers of the commission to educate the media on the electoral act and other constitutional matters guiding political activities before the election.
