FCT : NSCDC Intercepts Fully Loaded Truck With Vandalized Streetlight Poles

todayAugust 6, 2025

Background

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has apprehended a truck fully loaded with suspected vandalized street light poles in Abuja.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer Monica Ojobi says the truck was on its way to Kano, when it was intercepted by the Command’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI)
Crack team on 24 hours surveillance and patrol around Jabi axis of the city.

The statement says luck ran out on them as they were flagged down by the Command’s Crack Squad on routine patrol but rather than stop to give the needed explanation, the driver of the truck, including his motor boy, fled and abandoned the truck containing the suspected vandalized items which gave room for more suspicion that led to the impoundment and towing of the truck to the Command.

Commenting on the arrest, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu condemned the activities of vandals who are busy sabotaging government efforts in providing necessary social amenities for the people, especially in the Federal Capital Territory.

He reiterated that the Command is resilient and resolute in its anti vandals campaign in the FCT, and will do everything possible through its renewed operational strategy to continue to foil the activities of vandals, scavengers and other notorious elements terrorising the FCT infrastructure that the Minister of the FCT, Dr Nyesom Wike is working so hard to put in place for the benefit of all.

The NSCDC FCT Boss, warned anyone involved in the nefarious activities or aspiring to be one, to have a rethink because they will not be spared but made to face the wrath of the law and serve jail terms if found guilty.

He however warned the leadership of pantaker markets within the FCT to distant themselves from buying, selling or receiving any vandalized government property in their markets, or risk being shut down completely.

“When there is no demand, there can’t be any supply. I am using this medium to call on all the executives of pantaker markets in FCT to remember the regulatory guidelines handed over to them.

“You must distant yourself from dealing in stolen government properties or any vandalized items in your various markets.

“The eagle eye of this Command is beaming searchlights in every nooks and crannies of the territory, including the pantaker markets, and we will not spear anyone found destroying what is meant for the collective good of the citizens” the Commandant warned.

He implored road users to also support in the preservation of FCT road infrastructure by driving carefully to avoid knocking down the street light poles and other facilities on the road corridors, which is often the case around the city.

He charged the public to report any act of vandalism or suspicious movement around the Critical Infrastructure to the Command’s emergency numbers 09166229882 or 08159066244 for prompt action.

The Commandant has directed that the case be handed over to the department of Intelligence and Investigations to establish the sources and ownership of the suspected items.
