The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi State Chapter, has commended the state Government for prioritizing workers welfare, becoming the first in Nigeria to implement and pay the new minimum wage with added allowances.
This is contained in a communiqué after its monthly meeting in Lokoja, signed by the Chairperson, Comrade Stella Edoka.
NAWOJ described the gesture as a strong commitment to the dignity of labour and urged the government to continue its pro-worker policies by implementing promotion allowances and other entitlements.
However, the Association expressed serious concern over threats to press freedom, condemning recent attacks on Radio Nigeria Prime FM in the state by armed robbers.
It described the incidents as an assault on democracy and called for urgent investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Association also highlighted the growing insecurity along the Abuja-Lokoja highway, citing frequent kidnappings and violent crimes, and urged both the state and federal governments to enhance patrol and surveillance.
NAWOJ further decried persistent attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani herdsmen in Kogi East, which led to loss of lives, property, and displacement of residents.
It called for immediate Government intervention and the adoption of grassroots security solutions such as strengthening community policing, empowering local vigilantes, and boosting collaboration with traditional institutions.
Reaffirming its commitment to advocacy, press freedom, and justice, NAWOJ urged all stakeholders to work together for a safer and more secure Kogi State.
