Kogi Govt Assures Safety For Media Organisations

todayJuly 29, 2025

Background

The Kogi State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensure the safety and security of media organisations operating within the state.

This State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo stated this during a visit to Radio Nigeria Prime FM Lokoja, following a recent vandalisation of the station by armed men.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ebenezer Adurodija led a delegation from the ministry to sympathize with the management of the station over the incident.

Mr. Fanwo stressed the need to enhance security around the station due to its remote location, noting that safeguarding media facilities was crucial to protecting lives and property.

He described Prime FM as a vital asset to the state, acknowledging its role in disseminating information and serving the public interest.

While pledging the state Government’s continued support to the station, Mr. Fanwo also called on the federal government to intervene urgently to restore operations and prevent future occurrences.

He further urged the management of Radio Nigeria to strengthen internal security measures to ensure the safety of staff and infrastructure.

In his response, the General Manager of Prime FM, Alhaji Adeiza Momoh Jimoh, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner and his team for their timely visit and show of solidarity

He revealed that the station had suffered multiple thefts in the past due to its distance from the town but described the recent attack as monumental.

Alhaji Jimoh appealed to the host community to support and collaborate with the station to enhance its security and ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

He also appreciated the state Government’s prompt response and solicited further assistance to ensure the smooth operation of the station going forward.

The highlight of the visit was the inspection of the vandalised transmission room and the generator house.
