220 Players Set for Kickoff as FPIL Trials Begin in Abuja

todayJuly 24, 2025

Background

The Future Pro League International (FPLI) officially kicks off its inaugural trials in Abuja with 220 registered players confirmed to participate.

Founded by Mr. Clifford Ikwang, the highly anticipated trials will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Turf Arena Sports Center, located inside River Plate Park, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Ahead of opening day, Mr. Clifford confirmed that player registration has closed, with all available slots filled. However, latecomers still interested should come to the venue; they might get a slot if some registered players don’t show up.

He was also optimistic and also shared that he looks forward to meet people he hasn’t seen before.

“It’s going to be a great day.

What excites me most is seeing people I’ve never met, people who simply came across a post online and decided to take a chance. It speaks volumes about the power of social media.”

The trials will adopt a team elimination format, where winning teams progress to subsequent rounds.

Meanwhile, the losing teams will be given a second chance on an additional trial day. Players who distinguish themselves during this phase will qualify for a more structured tournament format.

The founded went further to outline what the top players stand to gain from FPLI.

“We’re not just organizing trials—we’re building a full ecosystem.

Players who make it into the league will receive official FPLI kits, have all matches recorded, gain digital player profiles, and compete regularly. It’s an experience designed to elevate their potential.”

The goal, in a nutshell, is to provide a clear pathway for young footballers while reviving the culture and entertainment that once defined grassroots football.

Through exciting formats, consistent competition, and immersive media content, the FPLI aims to reconnect communities with the joy of local football while giving talent a stage to shine.

On sponsorships, Mr. Clifford acknowledged ongoing talks but emphasized alignment over volume:

“We’re seeking partners who share our vision, those passionate about youth development. It’s not just about financial backing, it’s about building something meaningful with the right people.”

FPLI with its building momentum and strong foundation, will transform emerging Nigerian football talent, launching them into bigger opportunities in the world of football.”
