The Federal Capital Territory FCT Police Command has arrested a 40 year old man, Yahaya Saleh, for attempting to bribe investigators with the sum of one point five million naira, in a bid to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper currently under investigation.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrest followed a discreet operation by officers of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, who are handling a high-profile investigation into a kidnapping syndicate operating in the FCT and its environs.
The statement explains that Saleh allegedly approached the investigators with the bribe offer in a desperate attempt to compromise the case and facilitate the unlawful release of one of the arrested suspects which the officers rejected and promptly initiated legal procedures, leading to his immediate arrest.
It notes that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, commends the officers for their professionalism, integrity, and commitment to justice, and reiterates the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and interference in criminal investigations.
The statement further reveals that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate and assures residents of the Command’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and protecting lives and property across the territory.
