todayJuly 13, 2025

Background

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has urged Nigerians to remain optimistic and supportive of the ongoing reforms of the present administration, describing them as essential for socio-economic development.

Alhaji Idris made the appeal when he received the leadership of the National Forum of Ex-Councillors in his office.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, noted that the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration are designed not to impose hardship but to lay a foundation for lasting economic progress.

He explained that some of the reforms, such as the push for local government autonomy, the student loan scheme, and enhanced food security are all targeted at improving the quality of governance and citizens’ welfare.

The Minister called on the group to support and help amplify the administration’s initiatives to deepen Nigeria’s democracy.

The Minister also urged the former councillors to serve as ambassadors of Tinubu’s administration at the grassroots by explaining to the people that the ongoing reforms are for national progress and not intended to cause hardship.

Alhaji Idris explained further that “I want to urge you to please, support the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They are not designed to create hardship for Nigerians. Yes, they might be tough at the beginning but like the president has said, the economy is turning around.

According to the Minister, “We urge you to please continue to explain to the people because you have 70,000 strong members and all of you have your supporters across the country and across party lines.”

Earlier, the Assistant Secretary of the Forum, Mr. Cole-Michael Idowu, stated that the visit was to show solidarity with the Minister and commend his commitment to people-centered programmes.

He praised the Minister for his objectivity and transparency in communicating government policies and reforms to the public.

Mr.Idowu also commended the minister for revitalizing the agencies under his ministry, noting that they have been effectively informing and enlightening the public about the programmes and policies of the Tinubu administration.

The delegation comprises representatives from various states across the federation led by the President of the Forum, Mr. Auwal Kassim Hassan.

The high point of the visit was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to the Minister by the National President of the Forum, Awwal Hassan, in recognition of his service to national development.
