FCT : NSCDC Arrests 16 Suspects For Theft, Vandalism

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has arrested 16 suspects for theft and vandalism.

This was made possible by the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) department, Tactical Squad, on 24-hour surveillance.

The suspects were arrested at different locations in the capital city at ungodly hours attempting to vandalize armoured cables, galvanized pipes, telecommunication equipment, and other household equipments.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Monica Ojobi says three of the suspects Mubarak Barau, Male, 29 years old from Sumaila LGA, Kano State, John Yakubu, Male, 24 years old from Akwanga LGA, Nasarawa State and Shamsudeen Usman, Male, 25 years old from Kano Municipal, Kano State
were arrested at the Central Area with items stolen from the National Agricultural Development Fund.

It says exhibits found on them include eight rolls of armoured Cables, one LG outdoor AC, one sound speaker, two plastic Chairs, two bags of electrical cables, one travelling bag containing clothes and one saw.

The statement also says Danjuma Jerome, Male, 25 years old from Kaura LGA, Kaduna state, Maah Ishiaka, Male, 28 years old from Daura LGA, Katsina State, Shefiu Muktar, Male, 30 years old from Karaye LGA, Kano State, were arrested at Brains and Harmers Estate, Apo Dutse, Behind ShopRite for theft of sixteen MM electrical wires and criminal conspiracy

Others are Stephen Istifanus, Male, 43 years old from Madagali LGA, Adamawa State, Yakubu Thankgod, Male, 25 years old, from Madagali LGA, Adamawa State, Danladi Samson, Male, 29 years old, from Sanga LGA, Kaduna State, Barnabas Sobok, Male, 37 years old, from Billri LGA, Gombe State, were all arrested at Jahi District, for Vandalizatism and stealing of galvanized pipes and criminal conspiracy .

According to the statement, Saidu Shuibu, Male 43 years old from Bindawa LGA, Katsina State, was also apprehended at Kallada by Cocoa, Idu in Abuja for illegal mining while Phahat Abba, Male, 20 years old from Kukawa LGA, Borno State, Usman Adama, Male, 24 years old from Katsina LGA, Katsina State, Ali Shefiu, Male, 33 years Jibia LGA, Katsina, Adamu Shuibu, Male, 20 years from Barkinladi LGA, Plateau State and Yakubu Abubakar, Male, 21 years old from Barkinladi LGA, Plateau State were arrested at Kukwaba Idu, Abuja for illegal mining and dredging of sand.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include black armoured cables, three shovels, seven diggers, knife, pincers, two pinches, two transformer fuse, ring boiler and electrical cables.

Commenting on the arrest, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu,
reaffirmed the Corps’ zero tolerance to vandalism in the Federal Capital Territory, stating that he is resolute to rewrite history in the FCT.

“These assets are not for aesthetics, they are essential to make life more meaningful for the residents of the FCT, we must ensure their protection, that is why we are here.”

He warned criminal elements in the territory to desist from sabotaging the efforts of government or be ready to face the full weight of the law.

The Commandant, consequently, urged FCT residents to assist the Corps with relevant intelligence and information to help them deliver on their mandate and rid the FCT of criminals and vandals.
