LP: Nenadi Slams Abure For Asking Obi To Leave Party

Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, slammed the embattled former chairman Julius Abure and some members of the former national working committee for giving Peter Obi 48 hours Ultimatum to leave the party.

A statement signed by her in Abuja describes them as political jesters with no legitimate standing in the Labour Party.

The statement stresses that those behind the alleged 48 hours ultimatum issued to the 2023 presidential candidate of the party to resign had been sacked by the supreme court.

“They are neither recognised by the party nor by the law, having long been sacked by the Supreme Court of Nigeria the highest court in the land and suspended from the party for their serial acts of indiscipline and anti-party activities.

It further explains that the party had given its blessings to Obi to participate in the coalition talks.

Obi had on Wednesday joined some political bigwigs including former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President, David Mark, former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El Rufai, former minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, among others, in a coalition talk in Abuja.

The meeting unveiled a rebirth of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) which will provide credible opposition to the APC in the 2027 general election.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the leadership of the Labour Party, on May 26, 2025, publicly declared its full support for Mr. Obi’s involvement in the coalition efforts aimed at creating a robust political alternative to rescue Nigeria from the disastrous misrule of the APC. That position has not changed” Senator Usman adds.

“We wish to reaffirm that Mr. Peter Obi’s participation in the coalition activities, including the ADC unveiling, was done with the full knowledge, approval, and support of the Labour Party leadership. ”
