House Launches Probe Into Alledged Corruption In NPF

todayJune 26, 2025

Background

The House of Representatives has launched a probe into the Nigerian Police Force over alleged corruption, abuse of office, and violation of public procurement laws involving billions of naira.

In a motion of urgent Public Importance Sponsored by member representing the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State, Ibe Osonwa, the house raised concerns over a series of allegations, including the reported award of a ₦6 billion uniform procurement contract, which was split into 66 smaller contracts to allegedly circumvent the Public Procurement Act of 2007.

The contract was said to have been awarded to Crown Nature Nigeria Ltd.

In his lead debate, Osonwa, expressed alarm over the unauthorized sale of critical police barracks in Abuja, Lagos, and Kano, reportedly sold to individuals linked to Exim Realty Company Ltd.

According to Ibe, the transactions bypassed approvals from key government bodies, including the Federal Executive Council, the Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission.

In addition, Osonwa cited reports of irregularities in the 2024 budget contracts running into tens of billions of naira.

Companies such as Dexterity Development Ltd., KC Construction Ltd., On Track Technologies Ltd., and Strong Tower Infrastructure Development Ltd. were named in connection with the alleged violations.

He also mentioned the diversion of ₦2.9 billion earmarked for the Safe School Initiative, awarded to Biggie Scope Ltd. without meeting procurement and ICT compliance requirements.

Furthermore he said over ₦50 million was reportedly paid to unqualified firms for equipment supplies—including arms and forensic tools—that were never delivered.

The Lawmaker said the allegations point to systemic abuse within the force’s procurement processes and pose a serious threat to national security and public trust.

In its resolution, the house mandated its Committee on Public Accounts to investigate the Nigerian Police Force and report back within six weeks for further legislative action
